We partner up with Agape Ranch often, as their events are always a great time for foster youth and their families. Recently, we helped sponsor Penning the Positive, an exclusive writing workshop with Diana Lopez, writer of Coco: Story About Music, Shoes and Family. This experience equipped middle school and high school foster youth to pick up the pen, turn off the inner critic, and learn how to change their thoughts into transformative statements by using the characters in her books. The day started with an icebreaker, writing activities, lunch and music, positive affirmations and ended with a writing quilt.
We also sponsored the Princess and Pirates at the Texas State Aquarium, providing the entry fees for all participants. This was a special treat, as many have never had the opportunity to explore our local aquarium and see all of the wildlife and marine animals in our area. Not only did foster youth have a chance to meet a few princesses and pirates, but they were able to dress up like them, too! Just another chance for a fun-filled afternoon, providing a sense of normalcy that every child deserves.
