2nd Annual Tom Stocker Fishing Tournament

The 2nd annual St. John’s Episcopal Church Tom Stocker Memorial Fishing Fellowship was held on June 3rd and 4th at South Padre Island. Once again this year, all of the proceeds will be donated to Foster Angels of South Texas.  The fishing tournament, and Foster Angels of South Texas being the intended recipient of the charitable donation, was the creation of long-time church member Tom Stocker, who passed away prior to the inaugural event last year.   His legacy of caring for kids lives on through the efforts of many who contribute to the fun-filled weekend.   This year there were seventeen registered boats in the no-kill in-shore format.  More importantly, twenty-eight Rio Grande Valley foster kids had the opportunity to fish aboard a Breakaway Cruises party boat.  For most of them, it was their first time on the water.  The highlight of the weekend was the thirty-six-inch redfish caught by one of the foster kids participating in the event.  Thank you to the St John’s parish, Daniel Bryant and Breakaway Cruises, and all of the sponsors that contributed to making the tournament a success.
