July 22 – Friday, August 16, the Foster Angels of South Texas collected 309 pairs of shoes through the Give Them Wings Shoe Drive. All shoes remained in South Texas’ Region 11 and were distributed to a handful of CPS offices on August 19, which allowed foster families and caseworkers a week to “shop” for their foster children before school began.
Foster Angels of South Texas strives to give foster children a sense of normalcy while meeting basic needs through requests. Throughout the year, these requests can be items like clothing, car seats, bedding, tutoring or a recreational class. Give Them Wings Shoe Drive is intended to promote a healthy lifestyle, giving kids the opportunity to be comfortable during PE class and promoting them to be a participant. Amanda Pruett, Executive Director of FAST states, “Small acts of kindness go a long way with children, and the idea of having someone in their corner can make a big impact in the perception of a foster child. We want foster children to have a pleasant childhood, playing outside is a memorable part of being a kid.”
Thank you to Mattress Firms, Stellar Energy Solutions, Nike at the Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay, and the offices at 1 Shoreline Plaza. We appreciate your kindness and generosity, and enjoyed putting smiles on the faces of many children.
